Designers at i-Beam Design came up with the Pallet House Project, an easy and inexpensive emergency house built from pallets, “inspired by one simple, but unbelievable, fact: 84% of the world’s refugees could be housed with a year’s supply of recycled American pallets.”
The house was originally designed as a refugee shelter for people returning to Kosovo. The house comes with a manual and can be built in a day with basic tools and without construction experience necessary. It can be upgraded by adding insulation, smoke detectors, air conditioning, and other modern amenities. The homes are modular, making them flexible and customizable.
